About Us

Welcome to Casa do Manu

- a place where peace, nature, and Brazilian joy come together.

I’m Manuel Zellweger, Swiss-born and proud father of two wonderful boys. From 2018 to 2022, I lived in Atins – a time during which I built this house with great dedication and love. Today, I live in Switzerland and personally take care of all bookings and administrative matters to ensure your stay runs smoothly from the very beginning.

Here in Atins, you’ll be warmly welcomed by Lika – born and raised right here. With her kind and caring nature, she makes sure you feel at home the moment you arrive. Lika takes care of the house, welcomes our guests, and is always happy to help with anything you may need during your stay.

The Apartamento do Manu is not your typical apartment – it’s a charming loft-style home in a tropical beach house, surrounded by palm trees, ocean breeze, and the sound of the sea.

After a renovation in 2025, the house shines in new splendor and combines modern comfort with authentic Brazilian flair. You’ll have the entire house to yourself and enjoy complete privacy.

Spacious veranda with BBQ fireplace and hammocks – perfect for relaxing after a day at the beach

Bed linen and towels are, of course, provided. There is no air conditioning – instead, you can enjoy the fresh Atlantic breeze. For warmer nights, ceiling and standing fans as well as mosquito nets are available.

Getting Here

Atins is a small paradise – and like all paradises, it’s a bit off the beaten path. Getting here is part of the adventure!

The most common route is as follows:

Flight to São Luís
Drive from São Luís to Barreirinhas – by car, van, or private taxi (approx. 4 hours)
Continue from Barreirinhas to Atins – either by Toyota or by speedboat (boat approx. 1 hour / Toyota 1.5–3 hours, depending on the season)

Alternatively, you can reach Atins from the east:

Flight to Fortaleza
Fortaleza – Jericoacoara (approx. 5 hours)
Jericoacoara – Tutoia (approx. 5.5 hours)
Tutoia – Barreirinhas (approx. 1.5 hours)
Barreirinhas – Atins: by Toyota or by speedboat (boat approx. 1 hour / Toyota 1.5–3 hours)

Please make sure to book your transfers yourself and well in advance. You will receive all detailed information in our confirmation email.

Atins cannot be reached with a regular car!
You’ll need a large 4x4 vehicle with high ground clearance and good off-road experience. We also recommend arranging a local guide.

Activities

Lençóis Maranhenses National Park
Atins lies at the edge of this breathtaking natural wonder. Endless sand dunes, turquoise lagoons, and vast open spaces – a place you should experience at least once in your lifetime. Whether on foot, horseback, quad bike, or 4x4 vehicle – every tour is unforgettable. The best time to visit is from June to August, when the lagoons are filled with water.

Kitesurfing
Atins is a dream destination for kitesurfers from all over the world. Constant winds, flat water, and endless freedom – ideal for both beginners and professionals. The main kitesurfing season runs from August to December.

Mandacaru & Lighthouse
A short trip to the nearby village of Mandacaru is well worth it. From the top of the lighthouse, you’ll have a stunning panoramic view over the delta and the dunes.
